Activity-induced isotropic-polar transition in active liquid crystals

چکیده

Active fluids are intrinsically out-of-equilibrium systems due to the internal energy injection of active constituents. We show here that a transition from motion-less isotropic state towards flowing polar one can be possibly driven by sole through action polar-hydrodynamic interactions in absence an ad hoc free-energy which favors development ordered phase. In particular, we propose analytical argument and perform lattice Boltzmann simulations where appearance large temporal fluctuations fraction system is observed at point. Moreover, make use scale-to-scale analysis unveil transfer mechanism, proving elastic absorption plays relevant role overall dynamics system, contrary what reported previous works on usual gel theory this term could factually neglected.

Investigation into the temperature dependence of isotropic- nematic phase transition of Gay- Berne liquid crystals

Density functional approach was used to study the isotropic- nematic (I-N) transition and calculate the values of freezing parameters of the Gay- Berne liquid crystal model. New direct and pair correlation functions of a molecular fluid with Gay- Berne pair potential were used. These new functions were used in density functional theory as input to calculate the isotropic- nematic transition den...

On the Isotropic-Nematic Transition in Polymer Liquid Crystals

A system of polymers dissolved in liquid crystal is studied in the isotropic phase. A mean eld theory is proposed which undergoes spontaneous breaking of the rotational symmetry and reduces to the theory of polymer nematics. In order to eliminate closed loops of polymers from entering into the theory, the polymers are replicated n times and then n is taken to zero similarly to the procedures of...

Isotropic to nematic transition of aerosil-disordered liquid crystals.

We present a high-resolution study of the isotropic to nematic phase transition of a low birefringence liquid-crystal compound incorporating an aerosil gel. Calorimetry, light scattering, and microscopy data coherently combine to allow for an accurate determination of the temperature dependence of the onset of the nematic state. The nematic order develops on cooling through two distinct process...

Pressure and Isotropic-Nematic Transition Temperature of Model Liquid Crystals

Z. Naturforsch. 54 a, 559-569 (1999); received June 1, 1999 The pressure in the gaseous, the isotropic liquid and nematic liquid crystalline states, as well as the isotropic-nematic transition temperature are calculated for a model system composed of non-spherical particles. The potential is a generalization of the Lennard-Jones interaction where the attractive part depends on the relative orie...
